Summary:

The Accounts Receivable Specialist researches denials, partial and overpayments, while reconciling customer accounts. The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for the prompt follow-up on all outstanding insurance claims and correspondence for collections while assisting with billing-related inquiries by applying collection best practices, as defined by AR Management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for rectifying outstanding invoices while utilizing various AR reports targeting aged balances for collection, to meet and maintain performance goals as set by AR Management.
  • Develop strong relationships with carriers while tracking aged accounts and applying customer pricing agreements to collections.
  • Through various reporting tools, analyze and identify any AR portfolio trends to assist in improving cash collections.
  • Share data by preparing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting for the Accounts Receivable department, alerting management to irregularities, customer trends, and areas of concern.
  • Evaluate denials and partial payments to determine if further reimbursement is valid and ensure proper appeal within relative state Workers’ Compensation guidelines to facilitate payment.
  • Identify and request adjustments to customer accounts as necessary while following departmental procedure and state Workers’ Compensation guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Expertise:

  • 3+ years of successful experience in healthcare and/ or workers’ compensation collections and appeals required
  • Strong working knowledge of CPT & HCPCS codes, modifiers, and ICD9-10 codes preferred.
  • A solid understanding of individual state Workers’ Compensation guidelines and fee schedules and their impact on billing and collections is required.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Strong ability to navigate various payer websites to determine claims status.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, prioritize and meet strict deadlines.

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some college coursework is preferred.
